On August 16, 2014 the following sites were featured in the Doors Open Aurora: Merlin’s Hollow (Dierdre Tomlinson), The Blueprint House, A Walk in their Shoes (tour around the town with David Heard), Hillary House & Koffler Museum of Medicine, The Charles Henry Sheppard House & Sheppard’s Bush Conservation Area (currently Windfall Ecology Centre), Aurora Public Library, Aurora Cultural Centre (former Church Street School), Aurora Lawn Bowling Club, Brome House, Absalom Blaker House, Hartman Corner’s School, Petch Log House, Trinity Anglican Church, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, Aurora Farmers’ Market and Artisan Fair.
On January 2, 2014 Thursday nominations for the 2014 Municipal Elections opened for Town Term 2014-2018. This was the first day where candidates for Mayor, Town Council and local School Boards Trustees came to put their names forward for the municipal election to be held on October 27, 2014.
On December 28, 2013 Saturday former Town of Aurora Ontario Mayor John Gilbert Gordon West (born January 8th, 1932 Bristol, U.K.) died at the Park Place Manor after a long period of illness. Flags were lowered in Aurora Monday December 30, 2013 for the 3-term Town of Aurora Mayor who served between 1986 and 1994, and three terms on Council. He was predeceased by his long-time partner Fran Neale, and is survived by several nieces and nephews. His life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service Monday, January 6 at 3 p.m. at Thompson’s Funeral Home.
On December 21, 2013 major ice storm continued across the Town of Aurora. Town the Aurora Senior’s Centre as a warming station for those without the heat. By the following Sunday over 3,000 Aurora residents lost their power. Many trees felled down across Town of Aurora due to heavy and thick accumulation of ice on the tree branches.

On January 19, 2013 Saturday, the Town of Aurora has partnered with Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP) to recycle Aurora’s old electronics. The Salvation Army participated by accepting gently-used clothing, textiles and linens. On January 16, 2013 at the Aurora Cultural Centre, 22 Church Street, Town of Aurora Jacqueline Stuart presented heritage lecture “A Virtual Tour of the Aurora Cemetery”, a fascinating stories from Town of Aurora’s past.
On January 15, 2013 a Public Meeting was held to discuss Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Park, formally Civic Square Park at Aurora Town Hall (Holland Room), Town of Aurora, Ontario. The purpose of this meeting was to receive an input about the accessible and inclusive playground equipment including park uses and its redevelopment.
